Mary Poppins (Fully Restored Limited Edition) (Walt Disney's Masterpiece) (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection)

Mary Poppins (Fully Restored Limited Edition) (Walt Disney's Masterpiece) (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection) Overview

There is only one word that comes close to accurately describing the enchanting Mary Poppins, and that term was coined by the movie itself: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, Disney's pioneering mixture of live action and animation (based on the books by P.L. Travers) still holds kids spellbound. Julie Andrews won an Oscar as the world's most magically idealized nanny ("practically perfect in every way," and complete with lighter-than-air umbrella), and Dick Van Dyke is her clownishly charming beau, Bert the chimney sweep. The songs are also terrific, ranging from bright and cheery ("A Spoonful of Sugar") to dark and cheery (the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee") to touchingly melancholy ("Feed the Birds"). Many consider Mary Poppins to be the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's career--and it was the only one of his features to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award until Beauty and the Beast in 1991. --Jim Emerson

A different kind of contribution, as it is inviting your participation!

If you have not seen since 1964, Mary Poppins, and finally saw it again yesterday. The colors on my VHS copy is clear and the film is excellent overall condition.

Random impressions:
Seeing how young and beautiful Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, without all the white hair ruffled, and Ed Wynn alive and dizziness, has been an absolute pleasure!

There are so many songs in this picture! Thisalmost an operetta.
The live action / animation sequences are very intelligent.
The sweep number choreography is great!
Dick Van Dyke is a damn dancer, and Julie Andrews is with him.

It is not mentioned in the titles of Van Dyke, who has a dual role: as a friend of Mary Bert and Mr. Dawes, the former president of the board of the bank.

Finally, an invitation to share some speculation ---

What exactly is Mary Poppins? Youshe a witch or a ghost from the flesh?
First, the meeting when you are sitting on a cloud, to powder her nose. Later to see his face better, they want a large wall mirror, then appears in a duet with himself to excel, and even sing. A third stage occurs in the Looking Glass sequence Camino - Maria uses a compact to touch up her face stained with soot more!

Obviously the young woman is vain. She "hmmph 's if their picture outsings her mirror, it is also jealous, and ifrefuses to answer questions from his employer, shows Mary's stubborn.

So, Miss Poppins 'practically perfect'? All these personality traits are less-than-perfect showing people, after all, what do you think? Hit comments below if you want to participate, of course! In the meantime, enjoy the Walt Disney film DO classical family. Mary Poppins. E '"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "almost perfect!"
