Melinda Howard (Doris Day), a young rising star of music, has just arrived in New York, completely unaware that Jessica's mother (Gladys George), once the biggest star on Broadway, is now singing in a seedy Pub. The villa, which was just Jessica now adopted by a wealthy beer baron and his wife (SZ Sakall and FlorenceBates).

Old-Time vaudevilians Lefty and Glory (Billy DeWolfe and Anne Triola), now the boy and the maid, Melinda take under their wing and defend the ruse that Jessica is "out of the city '...
